Persuasive/Argumentative Essay

Narrowing down the topic for my essay was extremely challenging. We were given 100 topics to choose from, and there were countless others we could research. I ultimately decided to write about Death with Dignity. Having worked in the medical field since 2013—starting as a nurse aide and now serving as a practical nurse—I have witnessed many patients who are utterly miserable on their deathbeds for months, or even years. These individuals are not themselves; they are not living happy, fulfilling lives. Many are only lucid for a few hours each week, and most do not want to be alive. They often feel like burdens to their caregivers and families. I believe that many of them would prefer to pass away peacefully on their own terms. This realization struck me deeply. If I were in their position, I would want the same thing. Once I settled on this topic, the rest of the essay came together easily. I clearly understood my argument, conducted thorough research to support my perspective, and organized everything into a coherent essay.
