All Over Now

This course lasted for 16 weeks, and I was terrified that I was going to fail. My writing has never been strong, and the thought of having to complete 5-6 page essays with a minimum word count was daunting. I almost gave up before I even started the class. However, I pushed through, and I cannot believe how much I've learned throughout this course.  I feel I have become a stronger writer, able to find sources effectively, cite them correctly, and express ideas in more elegant ways. This course has allowed me to grow not only as a writer and a student but also as a person. I believe that improving my ability to explain things through writing will be beneficial in my professional life, as well as in my everyday communication.

The-The-The-- THE GRINCH!

There are several movies I have seen countless times that I could have chosen for this essay. With the holidays approaching, I thought a Christmas movie would be fitting. "The Grinch" is a classic tale, and the film is truly wonderful. In my opinion, it’s the best choice, closely followed by "Die Hard," of course! This essay proved to be a bit of a challenge, as I had to adhere to specific criteria for reviewing movies, and finding how "The Grinch" fits into those categories was initially a struggle. However, I believe I focused on the main categories that highlight what makes this movie so special. "The Grinch" is a family-friendly film that includes some fun adult jokes, which always enhances children's movies! Additionally, having Jim Carrey play the main character adds to the film’s charm, as he brings a unique blend of obnoxiousness and humor to every role he takes on.

Persuasive/Argumentative Essay

Narrowing down the topic for my essay was extremely challenging. We were given 100 topics to choose from, and there were countless others we could research. I ultimately decided to write about Death with Dignity. Having worked in the medical field since 2013—starting as a nurse aide and now serving as a practical nurse—I have witnessed many patients who are utterly miserable on their deathbeds for months, or even years. These individuals are not themselves; they are not living happy, fulfilling lives. Many are only lucid for a few hours each week, and most do not want to be alive. They often feel like burdens to their caregivers and families. I believe that many of them would prefer to pass away peacefully on their own terms. This realization struck me deeply. If I were in their position, I would want the same thing. Once I settled on this topic, the rest of the essay came together easily. I clearly understood my argument, conducted thorough research to support my perspective, and orga...

The Narrative Essay

Image
I initially thought writing a narrative essay would be incredibly difficult. How do I even begin? First, I need to think of an interesting experience from my life—there are countless options. I should narrow it down to what would captivate other people; there are probably four standout moments. I believe writing about something meaningful to me, especially if it includes an interesting twist, would work best.  As a firefighter and EMT, I had a night filled with tension while trying to save a life—specifically, a female life. I need to highlight the key details that led up to the outcome of the call, which ultimately resulted in two fatalities. It was a powerful and gut-wrenching experience that made for a strong essay.
